Blueseal Bike Bearings™ contain Mobil XHP 222 grease. Standard stock bearings are designed for use in machinery and contain very little amounts of non-specific bearing grease (Approx. 20%) This offers little protection against rain and dirt ingress.
Mobil XHP 222 is a premium marine-specific grease with high washout resistance that is designed for use in poor conditions. This means the grease stays in the bearing for longer and offers the best protection against dirt, rain and muddy water.

Enhanced Corrosion Resistance: Black oxide provides a protective layer that helps prevent rust and oxidation, which can extend the life of the part, especially in humid or corrosive environments.
Reduced Wear: The coating reduces friction between metal surfaces, which minimizes wear and tear. This is particularly important for bearings, as they are subjected to constant motion and load.
Improved Durability: By forming a stable layer on the surface of the metal, black oxide increases the part's resistance to fatigue and mechanical damage.
Reduced Service Time Less likely to fuse to the frame and headset housing allowing for easy replacement when the time comes.
Stainless Steel
High Chromium Content (16-18%): The chromium forms a protective layer, making the material highly resistant to rust, corrosion, and oxidation.
Corrosion Resistance in Wet Conditions: 440C stainless steel performs particularly well in poor, wet, or marine conditions, where moisture can cause rust in less resistant materials.
High Hardness: After heat treatment, 440C can reach a high level of hardness (Rockwell hardness in the upper 50s to low 60s), making it suitable for applications requiring wear resistance.
